Rodney Strong Merlot Wine
Rodney Strong Merlot offers aromas of plums and blueberries on the nose. There are flavors of dried herbs, blueberries and raspberries on the palate. This wine is soft, rich, and mouth filling with a light acidity and soft tannins. The finish is smooth and creamy, with more blueberry flavors and herbs lingering on. These characteristics are enhanced by aging in small oak barrels, which offers a toasty, spicy vanilla character. Drink this satisfying Merlot over the next two to four years.
Rodney Strong Vineyards has been growing Merlot since the early 1970s, when Rod Strong first planted it in Geyserville, the heart of the Alexander Valley. Today, the winerycontinue to farm Merlot in four estate vineyards in the Alexander Valley, which display the deep dark fruit flavors and mature tannins of this warmer American Viticultural Area.
The Rodney Strong story begins more than 50 years ago, when a celebrated American dancer named Rod Strong settled in Sonoma County to pursue a second lifelong creative passion: winemaking. Rodney Strong Vineyards was the 13th winery bonded in the newly discovered Sonoma County wine industry. A trio of winemaking paths crossed when Rick Sayre joined the team as Winemaker in 1979, and again when the Klein Family, 4th generation California farmers, purchased the winery in 1989 and initiated a renewed commitment of modern artisan winemaking. Through the years, Rodney Strong Vineyards has earned the reputation for critically acclaimed Single Vineyard and Reserve wines, stand out Estate releases and best-in-class Sonoma County varietal wines.
