Apothic Dark Red Blend Wine seamlessly integrates dark jammy fruit flavors, especially blueberry and blackberry, with enticing notes of coffee and dark chocolate for a rich and smooth mouthfeel and layers of texture. High quality grapes yield a great balance of acidity and sugar on the palate.
The grapes for Apothic Dark Red Blend Wine were fermented at a maximum of 90 degrees to increase the extraction of fruit characteristics. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled cone-sweep and upright tanks for up to 7 days. A variety of yeasts were used to bring out unique flavors and features from each lot. Following fermentation, the wine was influenced by a variety of oak to add complexity.
More than 800 years ago, vintners blended and stored their most coveted concoctions in a mysterious place called Apotheca. In late 2005, a Master Winemaker envisioned an epic red wine combining Old World traditions of blending while realizing a markedly New World style. Thus began the path that led his protégé, winemaker Boyd Morrison, to select grapes from California’s bountiful vineyards for this new blended red and many others.

For fifteen guests at three drinks per person, you’ll need 8 bottles of wine. This should account for some people drinking more and others less. But you know your coworkers better than I do, so adjust as you see necessary. If Cindy from accounting is a bit of a lush and your boss called an Uber last year, you might want to up that number a tad.
You didn’t ask about what kind of wine to bring, but for a crowd pleasing variety, try to get at least one sweet, one dry, and one blend, in reds, whites, and blush.

I know I have. It brings to mind something related to an apothecary– a person who prepared and sold medicines back in the days of yore. Perhaps Apothic could be a medicinal wine, created in in a secret medieval wine laboratory. Maybe it healed the sick, fortified the weak, and tasted great to boot.
A quick Google search on that term doesn’t turn up anything related to winemaking at all. Apotheca appears to be Greek in origin, and simply means “storehouse.” For all we know, an apotheca could have been full of barley. Definitely not as exciting as a secret medieval wine laboratory.
Apothic Wines’ website claims that they take their name from something closer to where my imagination took me: the name is derived from the word apotheca, a secret, 13th Century place where wine was blended and stored.
