Foxglove Zinfandel features brambly, ripe Zinfandel grapes and spice in a fresh package. The use of stainless steel barrels on the Foxglove Zin kept the fruit from being too dark. With a slight chill, this is an excellent barbecue wine!
After harvesting from vines grown in primarily loam soils, the Zinfandel grapes (accompanied by 2% Petit Syrah) are crushed without stems or whole clusters. They are pressed at dryness, followed by maolactic fermentation. The majority is aged in stainless steel, with a 6% component exposed to oak.
At the core of Foxglove is Bob Varner, who is also the winemaker at Varner Wines. Beginning with their first vintage in 1991, Bob sources the wine from a variety of places, all of which are in Edna Valley. The resulting wine has Central Coast appellation pricing, and is full of complex fruit flavors that the Edna Valley appellation is known for.
